DORŮŽKA/BÁRTA/NOVÁK AND TIBURTINA ENSEMBLE IN PRAGUE
On February 7th at 7:30pm a concert will be held at the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Prague (Dušní ulice, Praha 1) as part of the FOK concert series. The concert features David, Marcel Bárta (saxophones, bass clarinet) and Martin Novák (drums, percussion) together with the Tiburtina Ensemble. This special project which fuses Gregorian chant and medieval motets from the Spanish manuscript Las Huelgas with jazz improvisation, was originally commissioned by the festival Concentus Moraviae in 2010, and since then has been performed both in the Czech Republic and abroad. NEW CDs: IVA BITTOVÁ, INNER SPACES, NICOLAS MOREAUX, LUBOŠ SOUKUP
Several new CDs came out in the autumn of 2012 and beginning of 2013 with the participation of David Dorůžka. Worth mentioning is the new CD of Iva Bittová “Zvon” (Animal Music) featuring a wide range of guests, the Prague Philharmonia conducted by David Švec, and orchestral arrangements by Petr Ostrouchov and Beata Hlavenková. David also performs on the new CD of the Czech-Polish group Inner Spaces “Light Year” (Animal Music) – the CD includes the “Lullaby” written by David and besides his performance features the talents of Štěpánka Balcarová (trumpet), Luboš Soukup (saxophones), Vít Křišťan (piano), Max Mucha (bass) and Grzegorz Maslowski (drums). The debut CD of saxophonist Luboš Soukup “Beyond the Borders” (Newportline) features David, pianist Oskar Grönberg and bassist Joel Illerhaag from Sweden, and Danish drummer Morten Haesum. And the latest of new CDs featuring David is “Fall Somewhere” (Fresh Sound) by French bassist Nicolas Moreaux, with Bill McHenry, Olivier Bogé and Christoph Panzani (saxophones), Pierre Perchaud (guitar) and Karl Jannuska and Antoine Paganotti (drums). In September 2012 David also took part in the recording of a new CD of Polish trumpetist Jerzy Malek, together with Marcin Wasilewski (piano), Arild Andersen (bass) and Hans van Osterhout (drums).

NEW RECORDINGS WITH LUBOŠ SOUKUP AND NICOLAS MOREAUX
In November 2011 David Dorůžka participated in two exciting recording sessions. In Prague he recorded on saxophonist Luboš Soukup’s upcoming debut solo CD, together with pianist Oscar Grönberg and bassist Joel Illerhaag from Sweden, and drummer Morten Haesum from Denmark. David also recorded on French bassist Nicolas Moreaux’s upcoming Fresh Sound disc, together with Bill McHenry, Olivier Bogé and Christoph Panzani (saxophones), Pierre Perchaud (guitar) and Karl Jannuska and Antoine Paganotti (drums). At the Concentus Moraviae festival in 2010 David Dorůžka performed together with the choir Tiburtina Ensemble and Marcel Bárta (saxophones, bassclarinet) and Martin Novák (drums, percussion), in a program pairing Gregorian chant and medieval motets from the Spanish manuscript Las Huelgas with jazz improvisation. The Department of Jazz Improvisation at JAMU was established in 2010 and David Dorůžka is one of the teachers there. The documentary can be seen here (in Czech).
A NEW CD OF AGA ZARYAN
entitled A Book of Luminous Things contains also the piece This World, written by David Dorůžka to words of a poem by Czeslaw Milosz. On the CD Aga Zaryan is accompanied by Michal Tokaj, Larry Koonse, Darek Oleskiewicz, Munyungo Jackson and the Polish Radio String Orchestra. David doesn’t perform on this CD. NEW CD "WANDERING SONG" FEATURING JORGE ROSSY AND ALBERT SANZ OUT NOW ON FRESH SOUND RECORDS
David's third CD as a leader was released in January. It features two of his colleagues and friends from Spain, Jorge Rossy on drums and Albert Sanz on Hammond organ. The CD consists of four Doruzka originals, two pieces written by the late great pianist Herbie Nichols, one composition by Ornette Coleman, and a song by Kurt Weill. The CD was recorded in Begues in Spain by Jordi Matas, mixed by Lukáš Martínek and mastered by Alvaro Balana. Photographs for the cover and booklet were taken by Václav Jirásek and Jordi Matas, and a short text by David about the making of this CD and the group's history is also included in the booklet.

NEW CD BY AGA ZARYAN “LOOKING WALKING BEING” OUT NOW ON BLUE NOTE RECORDS
The new CD of Polish singer Aga Zaryan was released in the middle of March. The CD features pianist Michal Tokaj, bassist Michal Baranski, drummer Lukasz Zyta, guitarist David Dorůžka, and American percussionist Munyungo Jackson, known for having worked with Miles Davis, Sting and Stevie Wonder among others. The CD consists of six pieces written by Michal Tokaj, four by David Dorůžka, one by Larry Koonse and one by Zbigniew Wegehaupt, set to lyrics by Aga and poems by British-American poet Denise Levertov.

One week after the release, CD “Looking Walking Being” already earned a “Platinum Record” status in Poland.

DAVID DORŮŽKA WITH SAM SADIGURSKY AND TOMÁŠ LIŠKA ON CZECH RADIO – VLTAVA
On Friday March 5th from 5:45pm to 6:30pm and a week later on March 12th at the same time, Czech Radio Vltava will broadcast a two-part recording of a November 2009 concert from Prague’s Jazz Dock, where David Dorůžka performed together with saxophonist Sam Sadigursky from New York and bassist Tomáš Liška. The program can be heard live also on the internet broadcast page of Czech Radio Vltava.
DEBUT CD OF BASSIST TOMÁŠ LIŠKA OUT NOW
“Invisible World”, the debut CD of Tomáš Liška, was released on November 23rd on the Animal Music label. The CD features Tomáš Liška on upright bass, Italian virtuoso bandoneonist Daniele di Bonaventura (known for having recorded for example with Miroslav Vitouš), and David Dorůžka playing acoustic guitar throughout most of the album. Guest vocalist Marta Töpferova and percussionist Tomáš Reindl perform as well on several tracks. The recording consists of 10 pieces by Liška, one free improvisation by Bonaventura and one piece by Dorůžka. A trio tour in December follows the CD release, culminating with two CD release concerts at the Jazz Dock in Prague on December 9th and 10th. (For more info visit the Appearances section.)

NEW CD BY BASSIST JAROMÍR HONZÁK OUT NOW
“Little Things”, the new CD by Jaromír Honzák, was released on August 31st at the occasion of Jaromír's 50th birthday concert, which took place on the same day in Palác Akropolis in Prague. The CD features American saxophonist Chris Cheek, Polish pianist Michal Tokaj and drummer Lukasz Zyta, the PKF string quartet and David Dorůžka on guitar. NEW RECORDINGS FEATURING DAVID DORŮŽKA
In recent months David has been busy recording as a sideman on new CDs by several different artists. He will appear on the new album of Polish vocalist Aga Zaryan (together with Michal Tokaj – piano, Michal Baranski – bass, Lukasz Zyta – drums & Munyungo Jackson – percussion) and he also wrote several compositions for this album. Furthermore he will be featured on the debut album of bassist and bandmate Tomáš Liška (with bandoneonist Daniele di Bonaventura), on the new album of bassist Jaromír Honzák (with Chris Cheek – sax, Michal Tokaj – piano, Lukasz Zyta – drums) and on new CD by saxophonist Cyrille Oswald (with Tomáš Liška – bass & Dano Šoltis – drums). All CDs are scheduled for release in 2009 or 2010 and further information will be provided soon.
CD Silently Dawning receives the award Anděl – CD of the Year 2008 in the Jazz&Blues category in the Czech Republic
The “Anděl” awards (awards of the Czech academy of popular music) have been given out on Saturday March 14th in a live broadcast in the program “Noc s Andělem” on Czech TV 2. This is already the second “Anděl” that David Dorůžka receives, the first one was awarded to him in the same category for his first CD Hidden Paths, released in 2004.

DAVID DORŮŽKA / JOSEFINE LINDSTRAND Quartet on CZECH TV 2
On Sunday November 30th at 0:45 a concert of the David Dorůžka / Josefine Lindstrand Quartet with Michal Baranski (bass) and Lukasz Zyta (drums) was broadcast on the 2nd channel of Czech Television. The concert took place in April 2008 at the International festival JazzFest Brno 2008 in theater Husa na provázku. The program can still be watched over the internet here.

New CD “SILENTLY DAWNING” out now!
David Dorůžka’s new CD was recorded in October 2007 in Studio Svárov. It features Swedish singer Josefine Lindstrand and Polish bassist Michal Baranski and drummer Lukasz Zyta, and consists of 10 of David’s originals written on poems or texts by Emily Dickinson, Jiří Orten and Josefine Lindstrand. Included is a 16-page booklet with photos by Magda Slezarová and English-Swedish-Czech translations of all poems and lyrics sung on the CD.

The live DVD with the concert of Iva Bittová & Ida Kelarová from the Lucerna hall in Prague was released at the end of October. Bittová and Kelarová are accompanied by Ondrej Krajňák, Tomáš Baroš, Marián Ševčík, David Dorůžka, Julius Baroš, Radovan Tariška, Ivan Herák, Miloš Dvořáček, Lamborghini String Quartet and the vocal trio of Desiderius Dužda.
